LONG QUESTIONS FOR FIVE MARKS
1) Why did Griffin became a homeless wanderer ? Why did he slip into the big London store and what did he do there ?
= Griffin was a brilliant scientist who carried out experiments after experiments to make human body invisible. Though Griffin was a brilliant scientist, he was rather a lawless person. He had no home of his own. He lived in a rent house. His landlord disliked him and tried to eject him. In revenge Griffin set fire to the house and thus, he became a homeless wanderer.
Without clothes Griffin could not wander about London. The air was bitterly cold. So, he slipped into the big London store to warm himself. In the big London store he broke open the boxes and wrappers and fitted himself with warm clothes. He entered the kitchen of the restaurant and had cold meat and coffee. After taking a meal with sweets he settled down to sleep on a pile of quilts.
2) Why was Griffin wandering the street ?

Though Griffin was considered as the greatest scientist, on the other hand he was rather a lawless person. He was not a law abiding citizen. A person who follows law and order of the country can not think of damaging others property. But Griffin set fire to the house of his landlord and became a homeless wanderer. He also robbed a shopkeeper's money and the housekeeping money of a clergyman. Griffin also attacked Mrs Hall when she entered his room.
Thus, all these activities and instances of him prove that he was really a lawless person.
5) Why does Mrs Hall find the scientist eccentric ?
= The arrival of a stranger at a inn in winter was itself unusual event. Moreover, the scientist had an uncommon appearance. Mrs Hall, the landlords wife was an amiable lady. She tried her best to befriend with the scientist, but he had no desire to talk, and all he wanted was solitude. He directly told Mrs Hall that he did not want to be disturbed in his work and told her not to come to him to waste his time. So, Mrs Hall finds the scientist eccentric.
6) What other extraordinary things happened at the inn?
= One day when the landlord and his wife got up early, they were surprised to see the scientists door wide open. Usually it was shut and locked and he was very furious if anyone entered his room. That day they did not want to miss the opportunity. They peeped round the door. They found nobody in the room and decided to investigate it. They found the bedclothes cold and the clothes and bandages that he always wore were lying about the room.
When both of them were observing the things about the room, all of a sudden Mrs Hall heard a sniff close to her ear. A moment later the hat on the bedpost leapt up and dashed itself into her face. Then the bedroom chair became alive. Springing into the air, it charged straight at her. As she and her husband turned away in terror, the extraordinary chair pushed them both out of the room and then appeared slam and lock the door after them.
